Mauritania local population is composed of three main ethnicities:
Bidhan (53%) or white Moors
Haratin (30%) or black moors
West Africans (17%)
The remaining 13% of the population largely consists of various ethnic groups of West African descent. Among these are the Halpulaar (Fulbe), Soninke, Bambara and Wolof.
